About the Program
Grab your lunch and join us virtually Wednesday, June 30 from Noon to 1 p.m.
Join us as we welcome David Murray, head of the global Professional Speechwriters Association, for his presentation, "An Effort to Understand: How a Communicator’s Perspective Can Change the World," as he shares wisdom he learned from his writer parents and from a 30-year career spent among journalists, oral historians and psychologists.
Murray is the author of "An Effort to Understand: Hearing One Another (and Ourselves) in a Nation Cracked in Half" and comments daily on communication issues on his popular blog “Writing Boots.” He is an award-winning journalist and is editor and publisher of Vital Speeches of the Day, one of the world’s longest continuously published magazines. He is the author of Raised By Mad Men, a memoir about his advertising parents, and co-author of the New York Times bestseller Tell My Sons: A Father’s Last Letters.
Murray aims to help participants in the session:
- see their work in the largest possible light—as Murray calls a “nearly spiritual” way of living in the world.
- understand the kind of leadership communication we need now, both in civic and corporate life—and the kind of citizenship our leaders must be able to expect from us.
- use their skills and perspective to bring people together—or to at least help stop driving people apart.
